The formerly divided collection into Strubel covers to foreign destination and likewise another one of Rayons, we were able to dissolve. After been offered in 2013 first the Strubel collection, we were determined not to split this unique object but to find a client for the complete collection. We could realise this idea.
At the beginning of 2015 we were now offered the considerably bigger collection of the Rayon covers to foreign destinations (with numerous nixed frankings Rayon/Str. Here again we found it most important to leave this collection untouched and to find a client for whole. We approached the buyer of the Strubel collection and succeeded to convince him to buy this part as well. He had immediately recognised the unique opportunity to buy this llifelong work and to re-unite it!
I cannot remember that we were able to hand over such a big important collection in the past years and especially not in the last decades to a single collector. In this case it is only important concerning the amount in question but mostly for the importance of the completeness of the covers to foreign destinations, which is significant and serious for the Swiss Philately way of collecting. You may talk here without exaggeration speak of a collection of the most important postal historical documents, which were ever gathered. A first class Swiss cultural masterwork!
On the occasion of our 50 years jubilee we would like to show all collectors this masterwork closer. This can also be found in Mr Richard Schaefer’s book, which illustrates and writes all important covers: The Postal Routes of Switzerland to Foreign Countries 1459-1907 (This book can be bought through us.). For all those collectors of foreign destinations, who cannot (or dont want to) afford this necessary book, we have decided to put the whole collection on our website where you can study it.
On the following pages we would like to show you some outstanding covers out of this collection. We only concentrate on the images, not on the descriptions. We you are interested in any tax- or route-descriptions, we would like to invite you to study those on our website www.ghonegger.ch.
At the very end of this catalouge, we put a worldmap on which we tried to show the different destination-covers. A digital version of it is also available on our website.
